AMOSERVE now offers its Shared Web Hosting clients the opportunity to use MongoDB as an add-on to their hosting plan as all of our shared server platforms are configured locally (no remote access) with the latest stable version of MongoDB and securely configured for multi-user access. In the past, MongoDB has been reserved for those privileged to have their own VPS or Dedicated Server and not usually made available to those on shared web hosting platforms.

We provide you with 1 x MongoDB Database with 1 x MongoDB User/Password which is configured with full dbAdmin and readWrite permissions. The database can be used in your PHP your scripts (specialised programming knowledge required) and/or from your desktop with apps such as MongoDB Compass or NoSQLBooster for MongoDB via a secure SSH login.

There are some limitations with MongoDB in a shared environment, such as it can't be backed up as part of your hosting account, though is run only on RAID-configured storage, and can be manually exported (backed up) using the apps mentioned above. Also, if you were to switch servers or even switch web hosts, some manual actions would be required to backup/export and restore/import your database.

The amount of storage used by your database is checked automatically by our scheduled MongoDB Resource Usage scripts and is calculated from MongoDB's storageSize + indexSize from dbStats. If a database is over it's allowance, we contact its owner so that they can perform the appropriate management actions, or ask us to perform them on their behalf.

The costs are $10 USD /mo /GB (or part of) and there's a one-time Setup Fee of $15 USD. Note that 1GB of MongoDB Storage is a lot of space and rarely requires extending to 2GB, or even 3GB, which is our maximum storage limit for any single user's database before recommending their own VPS. Our monthly fee covers the cost of additional CPU, RAM, Storage and the MongoDB Management required outside of your normal hosting plan.

AMOSERVE now offers its Cloud VPS Hosting clients the opportunity to have MongoDB installed as an add-on to their Cloud VPS hosting plan as all of our cloud platforms can be custom-configured locally with the latest stable version of MongoDB and securely configured for multiple databases, users and roles.

With your own Cloud VPS, there are no restrictions on the number of MongoDB Databases or MongoDB Users that you can create. The databases can be used in your PHP your scripts (specialised programming knowledge required) and/or from your desktop with apps such as MongoDB Compass or NoSQLBooster for MongoDB via a secure SSH login.

There are still some limitations with MongoDB, even with your own VPS, such as it can't be backed up as part of your hosting account, though is run only on RAID-configured storage, and can be manually exported (backed up) using apps such as MongoDB Compass Community Edition or NoSQLBooster for MongoDB.

In addition to the above backup/export options, we can also be requested to provide bash scripts to auto-backup your data and even have it transferred to an offsite/remote backup server (fees apply). You should also note that if you were to switch servers, or even switch web hosts, some manual actions would be required to backup/export and restore/import your database to its new location.

There is a management fee of $15 USD /mo for MongoDB on a Cloud VPS plan. There's also one-time Setup Fee of $149 USD which covers the MongoDB installation and configuration. There's no limit on the amount of storage used by your MongoDB databases as you can use upto your VPS resource limits whilst remebering to leave enough storage space to enable normal system activity.
